First of all, if you have a job, then you should count yourself as fortunate. That's because there are tens of millions of people in the United States who do not have a job and would like to have one.
Second, you might think that it's a forgone conclusion that people who have a job would want to be successful in their job. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. At the very least, there are some individuals who do not take pride in their work and/or have no interest in reaching their full potential, to speak nothing of growing their career. So if you are gainfully employed, then you should do whatever you can to take advantage of the opportunity. With this in mind, below are three simple reasons to strive for success in your job: #1 - Your employer has invested in you. Your employer hired you because they view you as an investment. And as such, they are expecting a return on that investment. In other words, they believe that the benefit you bring to them will be greater than the cost incurred to employ you. That, in a nutshell, is how employment works. The greater the return, the more valuable you are as an employee. And if you don't produce a positive return at all? Then chances are good that you will eventually become a former employee. #2 - Your co-workers are depending upon you. You are probably not working a vacuum. That means you have co-workers with whom you interact, even if you're working from home and your communication with them is in a remote fashion. While you are responsible for your own success, you are also partly responsible for the success of your co-workers. You have a responsibility to them to do everything in your power to be as successful as you can possibly be on a daily basis. #3 - YOU are the ultimate beneficiary. When you get right down to it, the more successful you are in your job, the better positioned you are for future success. It could be success with your current employer, or it could be success with another employer in the future. This, perhaps more than anything else, is reason enough to work hard, take pride in your work, and strive to do the very best job that you can.
